How do implants differ from dentures?

Adults between the ages of 35 and 40 have a 70% rate of needing the assistance of an oral surgeon because of lost teeth. This can be due to many factors including decay issues, an accident, or a fracture. Missing teeth can be extremely embarrassing causing you to lose confidence and not want to smile. You may also have a difficult time eating the foods you love.

There are quite a few options to rectify your dental needs. Two of the most common methods are dentures and implants. Most people have heard of dentures and know what they are on at least a base level. Dental implants are similar in function but differ in other ways. What exactly are the differences between the two? Are there more benefits to one than there are to the other?

Dentures

Dentures are essentially false teeth. They look a lot better today through advanced techniques but they are not an ideal solution for everyone. When they are improperly fitted they can slip or fall out while you are talking, eating, or maybe that one big sneeze. This can be extremely embarrassing causing many to fell self-conscious and worry when they are around others. Partial dentures that do not fit correctly can promote tooth decay amongst the healthy teeth that are left.

Implants

Implants may be an option for you if your jaw and gums are healthy. Dental implants are false teeth that are surgically implanted into the bone of your jaw. If you maintain good oral health, the implants can last 20 years or more without requiring replacement. You can get implants if you are missing one tooth or many. You can also be worry-free since implants function like real teeth but are permanently secured to your jaw. Thus, there is no chance of having an embarrassing moment.

Implants are a terrific option for those with strong jawbones and healthy gums. They are a more permanent choice compared to dentures which are notorious for slipping at the most inopportune moment. Implants do not need any adhesive and can last for decades with proper oral care.
